On 5 June 2006, The Feeling released their debut album, Twelve Stops and Home, which reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. To mark the occasion, the band's record label, Island Records, organised a trip for 120 British music journalists on the Eurostar to Paris for the day, where the band gave a live performance in a restaurant. This event was a nod to the fact that the band had taken their name from a bar in Paris.
The Feeling is a British rock band that emerged in the mid-2000s, known for their catchy pop-rock melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and a nostalgic sound that harks back to the classic rock of the 1970s and 1980s. Their music is often characterised by lush harmonies, rich instrumentation, and anthemic choruses, drawing comparisons to bands like ELO, Supertramp, and Queen. Despite facing a fluctuating commercial landscape, The Feeling has maintained a loyal fan base and continues to produce music that resonates with audiences.
The Feeling was formed in 2005, but its origins trace back to the late 1990s. The band members—Dan Gillespie Sells (vocals and guitar), Richard Jones (bass guitar), Kevin Jeremiah (guitar), Ciaran Jeremiah (keyboards), and Paul Stewart (drums)—met while studying at the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon. They initially started playing together in cover bands, performing in ski resorts in the Alps, where they honed their craft and developed their distinctive sound.
The band's name, The Feeling, was inspired by a bar in Paris called "Le Feeling," where they had played during their time as a covers band. This name encapsulates the emotive and sentimental qualities that would become central to their music.
The Feeling's breakthrough came in 2006 with the release of their debut album, Twelve Stops and Home. The album was a commercial success, peaking at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and going on to achieve platinum status. The singles "Sewn," "Fill My Little World," "Never Be Lonely," and "Love It When You Call" became radio staples, showcasing the band’s knack for crafting memorable and emotionally resonant pop-rock songs.
Twelve Stops and Home was praised for its nostalgic yet fresh sound, blending elements of soft rock, pop, and classic rock. The band's ability to write relatable lyrics about love, life, and heartache, combined with their polished musical arrangements, struck a chord with listeners and established them as a prominent act in the British music scene.
The Feeling has carved out a niche for themselves with their distinctive sound and heartfelt lyrics. Their music continues to be appreciated by fans who value the band's commitment to crafting well-constructed, emotionally engaging pop-rock songs.
The Feeling remains an important part of the British music landscape, representing a bridge between the classic rock influences of the past and the contemporary pop-rock sounds of the present.
